Right Choices!

Many lessons can be learned from the account of Ruth.

 After the death of her two sons, Naomi told her two daughter in-laws to leave, l guess for their own interest as she thought that she had nothing else to offer to them.

 Its best to read the whole account from Ruth however lets look at a few passages.

 Ruth 1:

  8And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother’s house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.

 14And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

 15And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.

 16And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

From this account, it states that Orpah went back to her gods (notice the small g in verse 15)

  Ruth decided to clave unto Naomi but notice what she said, ‘ thy people shall be my people and thy God thy God.

 From this account, Orpah went back to her gods, but Ruth decided to stay with God. The God of Naomi.

 What a great difference in choices that produced amazing results for Ruth.

 Ruth ended up in the genealogy of Jesus Christ because of her choice to stay with Naomi and making Naomi’s God her God.

Matthew 1

  5And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

 6And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

 17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

 Wow, what a great reward for a right choice.

 I am sure the choice did not look logical to many in those days. What’s the point of staying with your mother in law that has no sons.

 Ruth must have known that  to stay with the God of Naomi is much better to return to her gods.  And while her sister in-law returned to her gods, Ruth stay with God despite the situation. Both of them came from Moab. (Ruth 1: 4).

 The rest is history.

 Its always best to make the right choice in spite of what others think or say.

 You can never loose staying with God.
