The process of change (Faith)

Would you like your faith in God to increase?

 Well, this should be normal as we walk and obey the Lord. We should continually be able to say, the God that did that, will do this, and as we do so, our faith will increase. What we struggled for 3 years ago, should be much easier for us to believe for today.

 Lets look at an example from scripture.

 When the Lord told Abraham that he would have a child when he was 99 years old, he initially laughed.  This was his response:

 Geneisis 17: 17

 17Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

This was Abrahams initial response. Most people know the account, Abraham did have a child at 100 years old according to the word of the Lord. The account can be read in the book of Genesis 18 and Genesis 21.

Following this experience Abraham had many encounters with his walk with the Lord,

  • Abimelech restoring Abrahams wife without Abraham even asking. The Lord fought on his behalf Genesis 20: 3 – 11,
  •  Abraham receiving Isaac back when he almost sacrificed him when tested, Genesis 22.

 These many encounters must have developed Abrahams faith.

 Sarah died at 127 years old, (Genesis 23: 1) and Abraham was at least 10 years older than Sarah (Genesis 17: 7).

 After Sarahs death, Abraham had a further 6 children. He must have been at least  137 years old when he took another wife.

 Genesis 25: 1- 2

 1Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.

 2And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah

Abraham that did not think he could have children at 100 years went ahead to have a further 6 children at age 137.  So what happened? His faith in God had increased. With no struggle he had 6 more children at least 37 years after his first promised child.

 But l hear someone say, it was Sarah that had the problem and not Abraham?

 If Abraham was confident at 100 years to have a child he would not have said ‘ Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

 He would have just said ‘shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? ;

 This is evidence that he was concerned about his age. But see what happened after at least 37 years old, no struggle, he went ahead to have 6 other children.

 Wow!!, our walk with the Lord should be progressive and so should our faith in Him.

 As we obey Him in the little things and trust what He says to us, our faith in Him will increase and we will be in a position to get more done for Him.

 Proverbs 4: 18 says;

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. This should be our experience.
