There is always a rising!

Have you ever done anything wrong? Made a mistake? Or have you deeply regretted what you did along time ago?

We all have made mistakes in life however some mistakes are more costly than others.

A number of years ago, a minister used to say ‘ as new covenant believers we should live in the new testament’.  However as the years went by, l now realise that yes, we live under the new covenant, but the whole bible still remains the counsel of God for our lives.

What do l mean? We can see and understand the ways of God and learn many valuable lessons from the old testament. Besides, the things the Lord hates in the old covenant, He still does not like them today though we have a better cleansing covenant. If we did not need the old testament, it would not have been written.

Do not be deceived, we need the whole counsel of God to live victorious lives and to understand the ways of the Lord. If you want to have a good foundation, being to read the entire bible for yourself.

 2 Timothy 3

16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Note the word ‘ all scripture’.

Lets look at a few examples:

David was described as ‘a man after my own heart’ in the book of Acts.

Acts 13: 22

‘And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

David was a honourable man, yet he failed and sinned against the Lord. The account can be found in 2 Samuel 11. Yes David paid for what he did, however the Lord was very merciful to David.

In times when we fail and fall, the best place to run to is the Lord. Bathesda later gave birth to Solomon who wrote the book of Proverbs. Not only that, our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ is the seed of David. Who can search the mercies of God?

 Romans 1:3

Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

Matthew 1

1The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

How we need to be so careful when we fall. The Lord has not given up on us, His mercies are still new every morning. David is a good example of the mercy of God.

Am l promoting sin? No, not at all, however when we fall and repent there will be a lifting.

Peter is another example. He was even told that he would deny the Lord and still went ahead to do it.

 Luke 22:

31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

33And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Yes Peter did deny the Lord, however he must have repented Luke 22: 62. When the Lord was resurrected from the dead, Peter had an encounter with the Lord

 John: 21

14This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

15So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

Peter was fully restored and went on to do exploits for the Kingdom of God. I am yet to hear of anyone shadows that healed the sick, yet this was recorded regarding the same Peter.

Act 5

14And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

16There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Peter fell and moved on, so did David and so should we.

Lets not team up with the accuser of the brethren, lets receive the mercy of God when we fall and extend His mercy to others. When we fail, let us repent, rise up learn from our mistakes and move on.

Food for thought!!

The things that really matter in life don’t just fall on you.

Even when God rained manna from heaven the children of Israel still had to get up and go get it.

Being Skilful in what we do

We need to be the best in everything that we do. We should be the best employees, the best in business, doing everything with excellence.

 Exodus 35: 30 – 35

30And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the LORD hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah;

31And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;

32And to devise curious works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

33And in the cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of wood, to make any manner of cunning work.

34And he hath put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.

35Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work.

Just as the Lord called Bezaleel the son of Uri to be filled with wisdom of heart to work all manner of work so can He fill us with wisdom relevant to us.

What does the bible say?

James 1:5

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

The wisdom that we are asked to request for here is not limited to direction only for our lives but it can be applied to our daily jobs , businesses, or anything we need to do.

Have you ever read the description of the tabernacle that the Lord gave Moses in the book of Exodus? It was a very detailed plan and Moses was instructed to build according to the pattern received:

Exodus 25: 9 – 10

8And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

9According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

The Lord gave Moses a very detailed pattern, and Bezaleel the son of Uri was given wisdom to carry out the exactly what the Lord wanted and Bezaleel did it according to pattern.

Exodus 39: 43

And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.

Only the Lord could have enabled a man to do such a work. The requirements of the sanctuary were very detailed. The Lord filled Bezaleel with wisdom to do the work and even to teach others.

We have so many privileges in the Lord and one of them is to ask for wisdom.

We have no excuse for doing things in an inferior way. Lets be people of excellence  doing things skilfully. The wisdom of the Lord is available to us provided we apply ourselves to it.

The significance of other signs

When you drive down a road and see a red sign, you know its time to stop. If you drive in the UK and see a lolly pop lady in the middle of the road, you know its time to stop for school children to cross the road.

When we see certain signs/ symptoms in our body, we know its either time to change our diet, pray to the Lord and ask for help and healing or go and see a doctor. In summary, signs have meanings.

The bible talks about signs and wonders. Most of the time we limit this to miracles of healing. While signs and wonders do include healing and great deliverances, they are other signs which we do need to take heed to.

What do l mean? Lets look at a few examples in scripture:

 Acts 5:

1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

12And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

What happened to Ananias, and Sapphira was a sign.

 Numbers 26:

9And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This is that Dathan and Abiram, which were famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD:

10And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign.

What happened to Korah was a sign.

Both accounts above are signs?

What did Ananais and Sapphira do? They planned to do evil in their heart and lied. They thought they lied unto man, but they lied unto God (Acts 5: 4). The result of this was ‘ great fear upon the church and all that heard it’.

What happened to Korah and company is another sign. They  rebelled against Moses, the ground opened up and swallowed them alive.

Friends, we do need to reverence the things of the Lord.

Romans 11: 22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God:

To walk as true Christians we need to know both the goodness and severity of God.

Is this the reason why many do not fear the Lord?  All of the scriptures were written for a purpose. We cannot pick and choose what we want.

These signs were written for a purpose. Many dwell on the good signs of healing and deliverance but forget that the Lord has principles and we cannot continue to live anyhow. Next time you hear something, ask yourself a question? Is this a sign? Is there anything to learn from this?

As long as we fear and reverence the Lord we will enjoy our walk with Him. Lets us ponder and learn from others and continue to enjoy the goodness of the Lord.
