The only cure for the heart!

When people have a cold, they will either take natural remedies or some form of tablets or medication. When people have headaches the same normally applies, natural remedies like taking a rest, or heading to the chemist to get some medication. Its only when the headache persists that people normally would consider a trip to the doctors.

The whole purpose of the above it to ‘get rid’ of what is wrong.

So what is the cure for the heart?

Proverbs 20: 30

The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

Lets look at the amplified version:

Proverbs 20: 30

Blows that wound cleanse away evil, and strokes [for correction] reach to the innermost parts.

When we receive correction in our heart, it draws out that which is not right. As we make  the necessary adjustments in our hearts it gradually becomes what it needs to be ‘ a pure heart’. Receiving the Word of God and allowing it to correct our hearts is the only cure for the human heart.

Have you ever felt that something is not right within your heart? Yes you are born again and know the Lord, but still struggle with jealously, pride, evil thoughts etc the list can go on. Whenever you identify these, don’t despair, just run to the Lord for help. Receive correction from the Word of God and make the necessary adjustments.

I came across this commentary online:

Proverbs 20: 30

The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

Better, The blueness of a wound is a cleansing of evil, so are the stripes that go down to the inward parts of the belly.

The open sores of wounds left by the scourge, unclean and foul as they seem, are yet a cleansing, purifying process for evil; so also are the stripes that reach the inward parts of the belly, i. e., the sharp reproofs, the stings of conscience, which penetrate where no scourge can reach, into the inner life of man. Chastisement, whatever be its nature, must be real; the scourge must leave its mark, the reproof must go deep. ”

From: Notes on the bible by Albert Barnes

Now lets look at these scriptures:

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Timothy 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The Word of God is able to cure our hearts when received. We need to expose our hearts to the Word of God and mediate on His Word.

Do we have to take action to ensure that our hearts remain right and pure? Yes!

2 Corinthians 7:1

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God

1 John 3:3

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

From the above scriptures, we cleanse ourselves’ from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit’ and we ‘purify; ourselves.

Our aim is to have a ‘ pure heart’:

1 Timothy 1:5

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

Only the Word of God received can cure the heart. Lets apply our hearts to its only cure, ‘The Word of God’.
