The real fight of faith!

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘ fight the good fight of faith’. In most cases when this phrase is spoken it is said in the content of an encouragement to keep on believing the Lord for that thing you desire. While this could be an application of the phrase, the phrase has nothing to do with believing God for your next car when you read it in its content.

1 Timothy 6: 10 – 14

 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

 Reading the above account, the good fight of faith it to ensure that we lay hold on eternal life. What does this mean?  It is to ensure that we focus on things of eternal life without distractions and keep the commandment without spot until the Lords appearing. That is the real good fight of faith.

How we need to focus on things of eternal life and value.

Lets look at another scripture that talks about a good fight!

2 Timothy 4: 7- 8

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

 Can you see that? Paul says, he has fought a good fight by finishing his course and keeping the faith, therefore is laid up for him a crown of righteousness etc——–.  Looking through the scriptures you can see the price Paul paid to fulfil what the Lord had for Him to do (Acts 9: 16) . That is what laying hold on eternal life really is and fighting a good fight of faith.

There is nothing wrong in believing God for that new car or breakthrough, but remember that the things of this earth are all a shadow and will pass away. The real good fight of faith is obeying the Lord, starting and finishing what He has for you to do. Laying up eternal treasures.

We all need to ask ourselves ‘ am l fighting the good fight of faith? I am focusing on what will really matter in eternity?
